Overcome Dental Anxiety and Fear
Many people experience mild to severe dental anxiety or fear over the mere thought of receiving dental treatment. Others suffer from dental phobia due to traumatic childhood experiences, fear of pain or the need for complex dental care. If this sounds familiar, sedation dentistry may be the ideal option for you. Our team of compassionate, experienced periodontists are specially trained and certified to administer several forms of sedation dentistry, each of which offers varying levels of relaxation.
Ideal for moderate dental anxiety, oral sedation is administered via a prescriptive sedative pill taken one hour before your visit. The effects leave you calm, relaxed and uncaring about your procedure, but do last for several hours. We recommend having an adult drive you home following your procedure.
Nitrous oxide is a clear, fast-acting gas that quells minor dental anxiety and worry over receiving treatment. With no aftereffects, you return to feeling normal once the gas is stopped and are safe to drive following your treatment.
When more severe dental anxiety is present, or more extensive, complex care needed, IV sedation is an ideal choice. IV sedation is administered intravenously, and places you in a state of “twilight sleep.” You remain conscious and able to respond to our instructions, but generally have no memory of your procedure. An adult companion is required when receiving IV sedation.
Effective on its own or in combination with sedation dentistry, local anesthetic is administered in treatment areas to effectively block pain receptors around teeth, gums and bone.
